The Dansey’s Room This unique room, built in the 1880s, at one time housed the dairy for the Doctor’s home. It is named after William Heywood Dansey, who emigrated to Port Chalmers in 1854 and settled in Oamaru. In 1855, he and some companions worked their way into Central Otago from Oamaru by way of Dansey’s Pass.
The clay bricks, from which the Dansey’s Room was constructed, were frequently brought down to Naseby from the Pass, by Chinese goldminers. We have subtly recognized the oriental heritage in this room by introducing an antique Chinese storage cabinet and bedside tables. The Dansey’s Room, which has its own access to the garden, has a super king bed, walk-in wardrobe and private bathroom with shower.

The Parker’s Suite In 1863, brothers B R Parker and W C Parker discovered gold in a little gully about half a mile from the present town of Naseby, where it was reported they got “fifteen pennyweight out of three dishes of dirt”. Within a couple of months, the canvas town of Parkers had a population of nearly two thousand and was a busy and exciting place to be. In a short while, it would become the thriving town of Naseby.
Our Parker’s Suite is part of the original gold miner’s cottage built during the early 1870s. It is made up of three delightful rooms – a spacious bedroom with a super king bed, sitting room with a comfortable sofa/queen bed, and a brand new ensuite bathroom with a dressing area/powder room. The Suite is furnished with an antique colonial kauri dressing table, wardrobe and washstand. You can access the outdoor verandah and garden from your bedroom.
Both bedrooms are tastefully decorated in tones of earth and sky – perfectly relaxing colours inspired by the vast Maniototo landscape. The charming bedrooms have wonderfully comfortable super king beds, dressed with exquisite bed linen, locally manufactured blankets and throws and luxurious goose down underlays, quilts and duvets. Twin single beds are available if you prefer.
Both bathrooms have plenty of fluffy white towels, bathrobes, environmentally friendly natural toiletries, and are equipped with heated towel rails, demisting mirrors and hair dryers.

‘Naseby is the home of curling in New Zealand and the international standard curling facility is the only one in the southern hemisphere. It’s a great game of skill and cunning but is easy for people of all ages to learn and challenging to play. The Old Doctor’s Residence is also close to the Otago Central Rail Trail and when you stay with us we can pick you up or drop you off at any point along the way. Plan for a day of wine tasting too at some of the world renowned pinot vineyards in Central Otago. And if you want a little more action try a mountain bike or 4 wheel drive experience
