Poolburn is situated just 7km from Omakau and is well worth the detour.
After crossing the Raggedy Range you turn right and end up at the Poolburn Dam.
The Poolburn Dam was built in 1931 as an irrigation reservoir and is stocked with brown trout,
making it a wonderful fishing spot.
The lake and surrounding landscape were used in the filming of the famous Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
The local cribs (or holiday houses) were camouflaged as farmhouses for The Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy.
